Punjab Government Allocates 3,200 Housing Plots for Journalists in Lahore

Punjab Government Allocates 3,200 Housing Plots for Journalists in Lahore

The Punjab Government has taken a historic step to support the media community by allocating 3,200 housing plots for journalists in Lahore. This initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to provide journalists with secure housing, marking the first large-scale project of its kind in Punjab’s history.

The Punjab Information Ministry and the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the land transfer for these plots. The agreement was formalized by Secretary Information Syed Tahir Raza Hamdani and RUDA CEO Imran Ameen, with prominent figures like Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari, Lahore Press Club (LPC) President Arshad Ansari, and Additional Secretary Admin Saleem Sagar in attendance.

Transparent Allocation Process

To ensure fairness, plots will be allocated based on merit certificates, with no room for personal recommendations. Forms for applying will be available at the Lahore Press Club for council members, while non-council members can access them through the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR).

Progress in Journalist Housing Scheme Phase-II

Minister Azma Bokhari highlighted the nearing completion of Phase-II of the Journalist Housing Scheme, which promises to provide much-needed housing to Lahore’s journalists. This phase is part of the Punjab government’s ongoing efforts to support the media sector with sustainable development projects.

Resolution of F-Block Issue

One of the major breakthroughs of this initiative is the resolution of the longstanding issue regarding F-Block in the LPC Housing Society. This resolution, directed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, removes a significant hurdle and ensures the smooth implementation of the housing project.

Impact and Significance

This initiative underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to the welfare of the media community, recognizing their contributions to society. By providing stable housing, the government aims to enhance the quality of life for journalists and their families, ensuring their continued role in promoting transparency, democracy, and public awareness.
