Pakistan’s Leap Towards Electric Vehicles: PSO and HUBCO Join Forces for Nationwide EV Charging Network

Pakistan’s Leap Towards Electric Vehicles: PSO and HUBCO Join Forces for Nationwide EV Charging Network

As Pakistan embraces a cleaner energy future, a landmark agreement between Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Hub Power Holdings Limited (HUBCO) aims to make electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible and sustainable. In a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), both companies have committed to developing EV charging infrastructure across Pakistan. This initiative signals a crucial step towards transforming Pakistan’s energy landscape and encouraging the shift to sustainable transportation.

The MoU ceremony was attended by key industry leaders: PSO’s Managing Director & CEO Syed Taha, PSO Chief Strategy Officer Mohsin Ali Mangi, HUBCO CEO Muhammad Kamran Kamal, and Aly Khan, CEO of Mega Motor Company (MMC) and a HUBCO board member. The agreement will facilitate the installation of EV charging stations in strategic locations, including motorways, highways, major urban centers, and other destination points.

Introducing Hubco Green: Powering Pakistan’s EV Revolution

To spearhead this transformative initiative, a new venture—Hubco Green (Private) Limited—will be launched. Hubco Green’s mission will be to deploy EV charging stations across Pakistan, focusing on high-traffic areas and critical locations where electric vehicles are likely to see the most use. By building an extensive and accessible EV charging network, Hubco Green will support both urban and intercity EV drivers, helping to reduce Pakistan’s carbon footprint.

Expanding EV Infrastructure for a Greener Pakistan

Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO), Pakistan’s largest independent power producer, has long shown a commitment to clean energy. The creation of Hubco Green comes alongside HUBCO’s broader green initiatives, which include setting up a local vehicle assembly plant in collaboration with BYD Auto Industry Company Limited. This assembly plant will bring new energy vehicles to the Pakistani market, further accelerating the country’s EV adoption and supporting the burgeoning demand for sustainable transportation options.

Hubco Green’s charging network will cover critical routes such as highways and motorways, as well as major cities. It aims to provide reliable charging solutions for both local and long-distance travelers, making the shift to EVs more practical and convenient. This development follows HUBCO’s disclosure to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), which confirmed the company’s intention to lead in the EV sector by creating a nationwide EV charging network.

A Milestone for Pakistan’s Sustainable Future

This MoU between PSO and HUBCO represents a critical milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward a sustainable energy future. By establishing EV infrastructure across the country, PSO and HUBCO are paving the way for a new era of transportation that aligns with global green energy goals. This collaboration will play a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions, decreasing dependency on fossil fuels, and creating a cleaner environment for future generations.

In the words of Syed Taha, Managing Director & CEO of PSO: “This partnership is a testament to our commitment to a sustainable future for Pakistan. By building a reliable EV charging network, we are supporting Pakistan’s green energy infrastructure, which is vital for economic and environmental health.”

HUBCO’s CEO, Muhammad Kamran Kamal, echoed this sentiment, saying: “The establishment of Hubco Green aligns with our vision for Pakistan’s future. With our extensive experience in energy production and now in EV infrastructure, we are excited to contribute meaningfully to the country’s shift toward cleaner energy sources.”

Through Hubco Green, Pakistan State Oil, and Hub Power Holdings Limited are driving an initiative that will shape the future of transportation in Pakistan. With their sights set on expanding EV accessibility and reducing the nation’s carbon footprint, Pakistan is on its way to becoming a regional leader in green transportation.
