Xiaomi Unveils YU7 Electric SUV: A Game-Changer in the EV Market

Xiaomi is poised to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) industry once again with the launch of its second EV, the Xiaomi YU7 SUV, in the summer of 2025. Following the immense success of the SU7 sedan, Xiaomi’s latest offering targets a competitive market segment dominated by Tesla’s Model Y and other premium SUVs like the BYD Sealion 07.

With cutting-edge features, a robust design, and sustainable technology, the YU7 represents Xiaomi’s ambitious foray into the world’s largest EV market—China.

YU7: Key Specifications and Features

The Xiaomi YU7 SUV is packed with advanced technology and sleek design, tailored to deliver performance and luxury:

  • Dimensions: 4,999 mm (L) x 1,996 mm (W) x 1,600 mm (H) with a spacious 3,000 mm wheelbase.
  • Powertrain: Dual electric motors with 220 kW and 288 kW outputs, delivering a combined 681 horsepower.

  • Top Speed: 253 km/h, placing it among the fastest electric SUVs in its segment.
  • Battery: Powered by a ternary lithium-ion battery from CATL, the world’s leading EV battery maker.
  • Weight: A sturdy build with a curb weight of 2,405 kg ensures safety and stability.

Design and Aesthetic Appeal

The YU7 inherits many design elements from the SU7 sedan, with notable enhancements:

  • Front Fascia: Sleek lines reminiscent of the Porsche Taycan, exuding sophistication.
  • Sloping Roofline: Inspired by high-performance SUVs like the Ferrari Purosangue.
  • Lighting: LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs) and connected LED tail lamps.
  • Innovative Door Handles: Fully concealed door handles for a modern and aerodynamic look.

Manufacturing and Production Capacity

The YU7 SUV will be produced at Xiaomi EV’s state-of-the-art factory in Yizhuang, Beijing. The facility has an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles, which is set to expand with a second phase in 2025 to meet growing demand.

Market Position and Competition

The Xiaomi YU7 is strategically designed to challenge Tesla’s Model Y, Li Auto’s SUVs, and Nio’s offerings. Its affordability, combined with high-end features, positions it as an attractive alternative for middle-income households seeking premium electric SUVs.

The YU7’s debut follows the remarkable success of the SU7 sedan, which delivered 39,790 units in Q3 2024 and is on track to meet its 2024 target of 130,000 deliveries.

Launch Timeline and Expectations

The YU7 is expected to officially hit the market in June or July 2025, with Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun emphasizing the importance of comprehensive road tests to ensure the vehicle’s quality and reliability.
