Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Unveils Comprehensive Development Plans
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a series of groundbreaking initiatives aimed at empowering citizens, boosting the economy, and ensuring sustainable development across the province. From affordable housing to agricultural reforms and small business support, her administration is focused on creating a better future for all.
Affordable Housing for All: Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar Program
Under the Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar program, Rs. 62 billion has been allocated to provide affordable housing for underprivileged families. The initiative targets the disbursement of 40,000 housing loans by May 2025, with a review underway to increase the maximum loan amount from Rs. 1.5 million to Rs. 2 million.
So far, 5,000 citizens have benefited from the program, and over 4,200 homes are nearing completion. In collaboration with the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Housing and Urban Development Department, ready-made homes are being provided to deserving families. CM Maryam Nawaz stated, “Every citizen deserves their own home. Housing is a fundamental right, and no family in Punjab should remain homeless.”
Boosting SMEs and Agriculture: Assan Karobar Scheme
The Punjab CM Assan Karobar Finance Scheme supports small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with interest-free loans. Tier-1 loans of up to Rs. 5 million require personal guarantees, while Tier-2 loans between Rs. 5 million and Rs. 30 million are secured. Additional incentives include subsidies for solar equipment and industrial estate development in Sialkot, Gujrat, and Quaidabad.
Phase-II of the program, launching in 2025-26, will disburse Rs. 379 billion to benefit 24,000 SMEs. CM Maryam Nawaz has also prioritized agriculture, allocating resources to provide 10,000 tractors and 2,000 super seeders by February 2025.
Renewable Energy and Industrial Growth
A budget of Rs. 6 billion has been allocated to expand solar energy projects, including the installation of solar panels on government buildings by June 2025. Efforts are also underway to enhance electricity generation through garbage and promote sustainable energy solutions.
Industrial growth remains a key focus, with the establishment of a 300-acre Industrial and Technology Park in Narowal and a proposed technology university in Kasur. The Garments Cities Project, aimed at boosting the textile sector, is on track for completion by March.
Recognizing Security Forces and Combating Cybercrime
CM Maryam Nawaz paid tribute to security personnel for their efforts in combating terrorism, saluting their bravery in protecting the nation. Additionally, FIA Cyber Crime teams recently arrested individuals involved in creating and circulating fake videos using AI, showcasing the government’s commitment to upholding cyber laws.
Driving Economic and Social Progress
With over Rs. 8 billion invested in agricultural schemes, the distribution of 4,500 tractors and super seeders, and efforts to restore citrus production, Punjab is on a path to economic revitalization. Initiatives like the Chief Minister Kisan Card, benefiting over 5,000 farmers, demonstrate the government’s dedication to fostering growth in agriculture.
CM Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed her vision: “We are fostering innovation, modern techniques, and economic empowerment. Together, we are building a brighter future for Punjab.”
