FIA Nabs Beggars Masquerading as Umrah Pilgrims at Karachi Airport

Nabs Beggars Masquerading as Umrah Pilgrims at Karachi Airport

Karachi – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a 10-member group at Karachi Airport for attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia under the pretense of performing Umrah, but with the alleged intent of engaging in begging.

The group, comprising seven women and three men, failed to demonstrate basic knowledge of Umrah rituals during questioning, raising immediate red flags. According to FIA officials, the individuals lacked hotel reservations and adequate funds, further affirming suspicions about their true intentions.

Among the arrested individuals were Muhammad Nawaz, Rahmatullah, Nizamuddin, Sugra Khatoon, Hazira Khatoon, Imam Zadi, Marvi Khatoon, Mai Amiran, Zareena, and Mai Khanal. The FIA revealed that Nawaz, claiming to be a relative, was coordinating the group’s travel and handling their documentation.

The group has been handed over to the Anti-Human Smuggling Circle for further legal proceedings.

In light of this incident, the Government of Pakistan has intensified efforts to curb begging in Saudi Arabia by implementing stricter Umrah policies. The new measures include:

  • Mandatory affidavits: Pilgrims must pledge not to beg while in Saudi Arabia, with violators facing strict legal actions.
  • Group travel only: Solo Umrah travel is now prohibited to ensure better accountability.
  • Increased tour operator responsibility: Operators are required to collect affidavits and ensure compliance.

These actions underscore the government’s commitment to preserving Pakistan’s image abroad and addressing the issue of professional beggars tarnishing the country’s reputation.

Stay tuned for further updates as the investigation unfolds.
