Muhammad Rizwan Appointed as New Captain for Pakistan’s ODI and T20 Teams

Muhammad Rizwan’s appointment as captain for Pakistan’s ODI and T20 teams marks an exciting chapter for the national side. While T20 cricket and Rizwan initially appeared to be an awkward match, he has defied expectations with a record-breaking performance in 2021. He kicked off the year with a remarkable unbeaten 104 against South Africa, followed by seven additional half-centuries, ultimately achieving the highest number of T20I runs by any player in a single calendar year.

Muhammad Rizwan Appointed as New Captain for Pakistan's ODI and T20 Teams

Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan was appointed as Pakistan’s white-ball captain on Sunday, succeeding Babar Azam, who stepped down from the role a few weeks ago. Rizwan’s inaugural series as captain will be against Australia, where the Men in Green are set to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is from November 4 to 18.

In the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he showcased his talent further, finishing as the second-highest run-scorer behind his opening partner, Babar Azam, and leading the Multan Sultans to clinch the PSL title.

Rizwan’s remarkable stability and consistency at the top of the order have transformed what was once a weakness for Pakistan into a significant strength. As he approaches the  2025 World T20, Rizwan is undeniably in the prime of his career and stands out as one of Pakistan’s most valuable assets.

He will lead the team as captain in the upcoming series, including the Pakistan Tour of Australia from November 4 to November 18, 2024, the Pakistan Tour of Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5, 2024, and the Pakistan Tour of South Africa from December 10, 2024, to January 7, 2025.
