Minority Card Scheme introduced by CM Maryam Nawaz in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken a significant step towards the welfare of minorities by expanding the scope of the Minority Card Scheme. The number of families eligible for the cards has been increased to 75,000 from the previous 50,000. At a ceremony held in Lahore, attended by men and women from Hindu, Sikh, Christian, and other minority communities, the CM officially launched the scheme.

Addressing the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz stated, “Protecting the lives and improving the livelihoods of minority communities is our responsibility. We will firmly obstruct anyone who endangers the lives or property of minorities. Minorities are equal contributors to Pakistan’s development and a source of pride for us.” She personally distributed the cards and observed a beneficiary using an ATM for a transaction.

A Proud Identity: Pakistanis First

The CM emphasized, “Referring to these communities as ‘minorities’ creates an incorrect perception. They are true and loyal Pakistanis. I firmly believe that while they may be fewer in number, they are second to none in patriotism and humanity.” She also announced directives for decorating places of worship and neighborhoods of minority communities during religious festivals such as Holi and Easter.

Financial Assistance and Development Projects

Maryam Nawaz announced that 50,000 families in Punjab will receive PKR 10,500 every three months, with plans to expand this number to 75,000. The financial aid provided during minority festivals has been increased from PKR 10,000 to PKR 15,000. She highlighted ongoing projects, including the construction of a cemetery for the Christian community and the development of neighborhoods and religious places for minorities.

Increased Budget for Minority Welfare

The CM revealed that the budget for the Minority Affairs Department has been increased by 60%. She also shared that the appointment of Punjab’s first Sikh minister had garnered congratulatory messages from around the world.

Steps for Economic Growth

Speaking to a delegation, Maryam Nawaz stressed the need for political stability to foster economic growth. She announced initiatives to support small farmers and promote small industries, which are crucial for economic development. The government will offer tax-free zones, tax holidays, and interest-free loans to encourage investment.

Promoting Tourism and Infrastructure Development

The CM announced plans to boost Sikh tourism in Kartarpur by building a five-star hotel and introduced proposals for new transportation projects, including a bullet train from Lahore to Islamabad and a glass train from Islamabad to Murree.

Protecting Women and Children

She reaffirmed her commitment to the safety of women and children, calling them her red line. The CM also shared that Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in purchasing livestock from Punjab, a move that could significantly benefit the economy.

Conclusion

The Minority Card Scheme and other initiatives reflect Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s dedication to the welfare of minority communities and the overall development of Punjab. These efforts are not just a step forward for minorities but a leap toward inclusive progress for the province.
