LESCO Extends Deadline for Bidirectional Green Meters for Solar Systems to November 30

LESCO Extends Deadline for Bidirectional Green Meters for Solar Systems to November 30

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has announced an extension for installing bidirectional green meters for solar energy systems, giving consumers more time to apply for No Objection Certificates (NOCs). This marks the third deadline extension, now allowing applications until November 30, 2024.

Why Was the Deadline Extended?

The extension comes as LESCO struggles to ensure the timely procurement of smart Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters, essential for accurately monitoring electricity flow in solar energy systems. Initially, LESCO imposed restrictions starting November 15, but the new deadline aims to provide additional flexibility to solar energy consumers.

Benefits of Smart Meters for Solar Systems

Smart AMI meters, priced at Rs. 41,000, are equipped with advanced software to record both imported and exported electricity units. This feature is critical for enabling a transparent net metering system, ensuring fair billing practices.

Key benefits include:

  • Accurate Monitoring: Real-time tracking of energy consumption and export.
  • Centralized Control: All billing and data management will be handled through a centralized control room.
  • Improved Transparency: Consumers can track the energy they contribute to the grid and the energy they consume.

What’s Next for Consumers?

If you’re a solar energy consumer, here’s what you need to do:

  • Apply for the NOC: Ensure your application is submitted by November 30 to procure the smart meter.
  • Prepare for Installation Costs: Along with the Rs. 41,000 meter price, additional installation charges will apply.
  • Monitor Updates: Installation of AMI meters will begin immediately after the deadline.

A Step Toward Sustainable Energy

This move aligns with Pakistan’s broader goals to promote renewable energy adoption and energy efficiency, providing consumers with a robust mechanism to manage their solar energy systems.
