Islamabad Extends Token Tax Deadline and Simplifies Vehicle Services

Islamabad Extends Token Tax Deadline and Simplifies Vehicle Services

The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department has announced an extension for token tax payments, offering vehicle owners an additional 15 days to meet their obligations. The new deadline, January 31, 2025, aims to accommodate the increasing rush at tax counters and streamline the process for citizens.

Strict Measures for Defaulters

The department has introduced stringent penalties to encourage timely payments. Vehicle owners failing to meet the deadline risk cancellation of vehicle registrations and a 200% penalty on outstanding taxes.

Convenient Payment Options

For added convenience, smart card users can pay their token taxes anytime through the Islamabad City App, a secure 24/7 online platform. Additionally, excise counters will remain open until 8 PM to handle the growing number of taxpayers, ensuring smooth and efficient service.

Director’s Appeal to Vehicle Owners

Director of Excise and Taxation, Bilal Azam Khan, emphasized the importance of timely payments and urged citizens to utilize the extended deadline. “Delay in tax payments can lead to severe consequences,” he warned, while assuring vehicle owners that all measures aim to simplify compliance.

On-Site and Doorstep Services

In a move to further enhance accessibility, the department organized an on-site service initiative on Wednesday at the Rose & Jasmine Garden parking lot. Citizens could avail services like vehicle registration, transfers, and token tax payments between 2:00 to 4:00 PM.

Moreover, the ICT administration introduced the ICT Doorstep Service, enabling citizens to access essential services conveniently. Available services include:

  • Domicile Certificates
  • Birth Certificates
  • Power of Attorney documents
  • International Driving Permits
  • Fuel Permits (Domestic/Commercial)
  • Motor Vehicle Registrations

These initiatives are designed to reduce bureaucracy and provide a hassle-free experience to residents of the Federal Capital.

Why Timely Tax Payment Matters

The Excise and Taxation Department’s proactive measures underscore the importance of tax compliance for infrastructure development and public service improvements. Islamabad’s vehicle owners are encouraged to clear their dues promptly and take advantage of the streamlined services.
