China has unveiled the CR450 high-speed train prototype, setting new global benchmarks in speed, efficiency, and innovation. The CR450 achieved a record test speed of 450 km/h (280 mph) and is expected to operate at 400 km/h in commercial service. This revolutionary development surpasses its predecessor, the CR400, which has dominated high-speed rail travel since 2017 with an operational speed of 350 km/h.
Next-Generation Rail Technology
Developed by CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles and CRRC Sifang, the CR450 incorporates cutting-edge technology to redefine high-speed rail travel. With a 22% reduction in operational resistance and a 10% decrease in weight, the train offers improved energy efficiency and sustainability. It features a water-cooled, permanent magnet traction system, over 4,000 sensors for real-time monitoring, and advanced braking systems that maintain stability even at high speeds.
Enhanced Passenger Comfort
Passenger comfort is a top priority for the CR450. Noise-reduction systems lower interior noise levels by 2 decibels, while expanded cabin space offers 4% more room for passengers. The train is equipped with versatile storage options to accommodate bicycles, wheelchairs, and other items, making it a convenient travel option.

Rigorous Testing and Global Leadership
The CR450 underwent extensive testing, including over 200,000 kilometers of trial runs, 3,000 simulations, and 2,000 rigorous platform tests to ensure safety and performance. These efforts cement China’s position as a global leader in railway technology, building on a rail network that spans 160,000 kilometers, including 46,000 kilometers of high-speed rail.
Transforming Travel
High-speed rail has become a viable alternative to air travel for journeys up to 1,200 kilometers (700 miles). The CR450 further enhances this mode of transport, offering faster, more efficient, and environmentally friendly travel options. As China continues to innovate, the CR450 exemplifies the nation’s commitment to leading the future of transportation.
